A personal coincidence connects me to the place: over 30 years ago, my parents met there, in a building that has since been demolished.
This biographical trace gave rise to an artistic practice that encounters the place and the people associated with it in a multi-layered way.
With the help of my camera, I developed a network of relationships between people, places, and times. Old traces were followed and new connections were made.
The exhibition provides insights into these processes of encounter, weaving together personal thoughts, photographs, film, and archive material.

A site in Rappertshofen is being explored where a building once stood. Built in 1973 as a youth home for girls, it closed in 1982 and was subsequently used as a shelter for Vietnamese refugees and Jewish immigrants from the former Soviet Union. In 2010, the building was demolished.
I have a personal connection to this place: my parents met here in 1991. My father had recently moved from Ukraine with his daughter, Marina, into what was then known as the “foreigners’ dormitory.” My mother worked there as a social worker. Today, I return to the site at exactly the age my mother was when she began working there. In the room where my father once slept, I encounter crows, foxes, and traces of lives that preceded mine.
Personal histories become entangled with the history of a place shaped by displacement, separation, and exclusion. Although the building has disappeared, its different temporal layers remain present in fragments, memories, stories, and the landscape itself. Different time periods weave together into a tapestry that I tentatively explore with my camera.
